What’s the Difference b/w Web Design and Print Media?

Print media and web design differ from each other in many aspects. Let’s take a look at some factors. It’s a common concept that web and print media designing are two same things. However, professional designers have realized that these are actually very different fields and in order to deliver quality, the disparities cannot be matched.

Print Media and Web Design

For instance, we use small fonts on print media designs and large fonts on web design works for visual clarity for a reader. Since font is only one aspect of design, we’ll discuss other aspects as well into detail about the differences between print media and web designing in this blog article.

Font Considerations

As mentioned above, font for the web should be visible and easy to read compared to font for print media. First consideration in web design is selection of legible font that is a lot more difficult than deciding legibility for a print design. Web designers have to take care of legibility, adoptability and licensing issues in font selection. Print designers are free from this headache – they can use any typeface without worrying about how well it will transfer onto another page.

Quality Considerations

When we talk about quality of print media and web designs, the major difference come in front of us. Print media designs are measured in dots per inch scale while web designs are measured in pixels per inch. For good quality print, print designs require minimum 300 DPI while for making attractive web designs require minimum 72 PPI as a target.

Layouts Considerations

Print media design is considered easier than web design because for print designs the sizes are fixed. You get an idea how exactly your design will look on paper. You can also get “print proof” for confirmation that your design looks exactly the way it should be. Print media designs should be perfect for being put up on almost anything of any type and size of paper.

Web designs are complicated that print media designs as they need to fit absurdly large or small screen sizes and need to be more fluid. A web designer cannot be sure that the final design will fit for web application.

User-friendly Navigation

No doubt, the toughest thing is designing for easy navigation. Reader navigation on print media design is very simple; the reader can easily get the idea in first look. Readers can also turn pages, fold, unfold, go back, switch, etc.

For web design, navigation is not so easy. Web Designers have to pay full attention to user-friendly navigation with quality pixels, breadcrumbs, menus, responsiveness and scrolling ability.

RGB and CYMK

You should know all about color palettes for both print media and web designs. If you are designing for web, you should go with RGB color palette, unlike print media designs which go well with CMYK colors.  What’s more important to consider for a web designer will be the display of web page on different devices as well as how colors will be affected by HSV color model, lightness, screen brightness, contrasts and darkness. Likewise, for a print designer who considers that how color choice will appear “on print paper” as opposed to how it appears on the display screen.

Conclusion

The list above pretty much sums up the fact that designing for web and designing for the print media are having their own set of challenges and restrictions. It will be difficult for a single designer to work for both departments.

Realize The Power Of Poster Advertisement

Posters provide a cost-effective and logical way of delivering messages to a particular target market. When placed at the correct location, attractive and informative posters can deliver your message to a targeted audience and alert them of an upcoming product or service. Posters advertisement is cheaper than common forms of advertising such as radio and television.

When we need to run an effective print advertising campaign, we find that no other advertisement method can beat poster power!

poster design

For making posters marketing campaign more effective, you need to follow given below tips:

Identify Your Targeted Audience

First of all you need to decide your targeted audience? You should identify who is likely to buy your services or products. Your message, poster design, style and language of your poster should be focused to those you want to see it.

Placement

Whether you want to advertise outdoor, indoor or both, you need to think carefully about the location of the poster to display. If you’ve identified your target audience, now it’s time to identify where do they go? Like any other advertising, a poster advertising campaign will generate more leads when seen by the right people, so make sure to display your posters where your targeted customers are likely to be.

Make It Simple

5 Tips for Designing a Coffee Shop Flyer

Now a days, print material has become an essential part for marketing of any business. In 2015, printing industry reported a 4.5% rise in the use of printed items for marketing campaigns of coffee shops. The marketing industry is now adopting an effective way of combining online channels and print items to create a successful campaign.

Whether you are using print for in-store promotional materials, using for direct mail or handing out leaflets on the high street, the print items have become the backbone of business advertising. Advertisement using print material is cheaper than online media advertisement.

Many small business owners cannot afford online advertisement for their businesses, for them print items is the best solution for interacting with the audience. Flyers are very useful and have been used by many companies and individuals for product promotion. They are also called leaflets and the information is printed on one side of paper. The basic purpose of flyers is to make aware consumers of new services or deal offered by any business.

Coffee Shop Flyer Design

There are some key principles to focus and finalize before getting started in flyer design. Given below tips will help in designing an effective flyer:

1. Grab the Attention of Consumers

You need an effective headline and eye-catching visuals that will grab the attention of people, if being placed at the front of a store. The use of attractive colors is the main thing, you need to be very selective, stay consistent with the colors used for branding.

Simple and attractive designs grab the attention of the audience. Use the real photos of your coffee shop that will give an idea of the atmosphere and write the text of your promotion in bold.

2. Sell the Benefits

The main purpose of marketing has been based around selling the benefits. For example, tell people what benefits they will get from you rather than describing them what process you use in coffee making.

3. Be Concise

You need to focus on your main point; the average attention span should be under 8 seconds! If the consumer likes the main idea, you can add a call to action for further details.

Use lists, bullet points or boxes to highlight the key benefits rather than including them in a lengthy paragraph.

4. Speak like Marketeer

Always use marketing words for telling the main idea of your product or service. Do not use your natural way of speaking with customers. For marketing you need to be professional, catchy tagline and titles play the main role.

5. Call to Action

Call to Action is an obvious part, but before adding any CTA you must be very clear about what you want your audience to do next. Now at this step, you need to speak naturally, use phrases like ‘Take a free sample today’ or ‘Try our unique blend today will ensure you get a return on investment.

Rack Cards: An Effective Way of Advertisement

Rack cards play a very crucial role in product marketing. The main goal of a Rack card is to gain the attention of the customers while they are in queue for making transactions. Racks cards are majorly used in banks, schools, hotels, franchises of telecom companies and tourism related offices.

You might have seen rack cards at a bus station, placed there for promotion of various destinations. Travel agents place rack cards on their office tables for promoting different packages.

Rackcards

Design Tips for Rack Cards

While designing a rack card, always remember that is must compete with all other cards for catching viewer’s attention. These days, bold photos and catchy title are used for gaining attention of viewer. The design of top half portion of rack card is crucial, since the cards are placed in a metal or plastic rack and only the first half of card remains visible in a rack. So make the first half more attractive and catchy.

Use attractive and decent color scheme in the rack card design for making it view-able from a distance. Print a sample of your design and place it in a rack stand for having an idea how your rack card will look.

Add main headline, photo, contact information or call to action at the top of rack card. If you are designing dual sided rack card, you can include a list of products or services at the back side. If you are designing a rack card for a restaurant, consider adding a menu of special dishes on the back of the card.

In short, focus on the front side first half of rack card for the main idea and use remaining space for other required items.

Printing Tips for Rack Cards

Rack cards are cheap and effective sales tools for any type of business. Rack cards have two standard sizes: 4” x 9” and 3.5” x 8.5”. It is important to use one of these sizes since most card racks are built for these sizes of cards.

Selection of paper for rack cards also needs attention. You will also need to choose a paper stock, mostly glass, matte or uncoated cover paper is used for printing of rack cards. Many printers offer foil stamping to better catch the eye of the viewer and some offer gloss aqueous or UV coating for durability of rack cards.

When designing a custom rack card, also consider whether you want the cards shrink wrapped or whether you need rounded edges on the cards.

For a rack card design, it is very important to clearly deliver the main message at the top. Make it easy for readers to understand what action they are required to take. The rack card must leave a memory in viewer’s mind about your services for future use.

Market your Brand with Stationery Printing

In my previous articles, I have written about logo designs, flyers design and benefits of business cards printing. All these materials help you in the marketing of your brand. In fact, I believe very strongly that every business related printed item helps you in marketing your brand or services.

Printed stationery items are a big source for brand marketing. Good quality business cards, envelopes, letterheads and brochures show your professionalism and create an impressive image.

Print Shop-Stationery Printing

Design Business Cards, Envelopes and Letterhead with Same Look and Feel

Your all stationery items should be of the same design, color scheme, typography, alignment, point sizes and spacing. The stationery package is very crucial to the image of your brand. Hire any professional graphics designing company for designing all stationery items together.

If you know about graphics designing, you can do it by yourself. All you need to do is find some design ideas over the internet, select some appealing designs and create your own. Try different styles. Check the overall image of all items by changing the color scheme, style, alignments and typography.

Put each design set of business card, letterhead and envelopes in front of you, make sure they give a professional and unified look. Show your designs to colleagues to get their feedback. Business stationery items should reflect the nature of your business. Use a tagline about your business that gives the main idea and goal of the business.

When you have finalized a design, ask yourself what you would think if you receive a business card or letterhead from any other business. Would this design inspire you?

Use Good Quality Paper for Printing

After the design process, it comes to printing step. Your design work will look better only on good quality paper. Don’t forget good quality paper is very important.

At kooldesignmaker.com, we suggest our clients regarding paper qualities. We use 24# or 28# paper for the envelope printing, 60# or 70# paper for the letterhead printing, 80# for cover printing, and 110# or 130# for business cards printing.

When selecting the paper for printing, you need to consider the surface and the color of the paper. Surface wise paper is available in different patterns like “laid” and “linen”. Check the paper sample in sunlight, incandescent and fluorescent light.

In the end, I’ll say it again that the printed stationery items play a very crucial role in business marketing. The first impression is the last impression. If all the marketing material is well-crafted, it will help you in creating impressive image of your brand.
